Wednesday, October 13

I began the lecture on Latin America's Challenges.  All classes finished the section on Population Growth.

Monday, October 11

Finished the movie about the Mirabal sisters and then there was time for discussion and questions about it.

Friday, October 9

We finished watching the movie today.  Current events were also due.  Today is the last day to change anything to do with the semester project.

Thursday, October 8

We watched another part of the movie today.  Tests were also handed back to look at.

Wednesday, October 7

Today is the last day to turn in any assignments from the first unit for half credit.  Quizzes also will be removed from the MRC for make-up tomorrow morning.  I introduced the new unit, Latin America since WWII, to begin class today.  We then starting watching the movie "In the Time of the Butterflies", the story of the the Mirabal sisters in the Dominican Republic in the mid-20th century.

Monday, October 5

Went over U.S. foreign policy in Latin America.  There was time for students to ask questions about the test/unit review.

Friday, October 2

Short current events session.  We chose the essay question for Tuesday's test.  We began talking about U.S. foreign policy in Latin America but did not finish in any of the classes.  That will happen on Monday.

Thursday, October 1

The students received the unit review to begin preparing for next Tuesday's test.  They also are to read 25.4 in the text.  They had time to work on both of these in class.


Wednesday, September 30

Today the students took a notes quiz over the lecture.  We then discussed the 21.4 study guide and handed it in.

Tuesday, September 29

The classes finished taking the notes on Latin American Independence today.

Monday, September 28

Latin American Independence notes today.  Check grades on the Infinite Campus portal to be sure that everything is there that has been completed.

Thursday and Friday, September 24 and 25

Classs are in the library working on their semester projects.

Wednesday, September 23

Today I used the class as an example of the Latin American social ladder.  We also discussed the questions from the text that they answered from 13.3.  All classes are in the library tomorrow and Friday.

Tuesday, September 22

Today we talked about the current social ladder in the United States before building the Latin American social ladder of the colonial period.  The goal was to compare the two and highlight the differences.

Monday, September 21

Today we reviewed the Overseas Empires chart from last Thursday.  I then gave them instructions and talked about the semester project.  Today's assignment is to read p. 444-447 and do #1-7.  For #1, Brazil and labor can be eliminated but mercantilism needs to added.  Students will have to look in the index for mercantilism.

Thursday, September 17

We discussed the chart on Overseas Empires today.  I had them take a couple of notes on the back of the charts on the Line of Demarcation and the Treaty of Tordesillas.

Wednesday, September 16

Today we did a group quiz involving questions about Christopher Columbus.  This took the entire period.

Tuesday, September 15

Today the students took a quiz over the notes taken over the past few class periods.  Then they received an assignment that is due on Thursday, the Overseas Empires chart.  Chapter 13, section 1, beginning on p.430, is what is to be read in order to complete the chart.  They had some time to get started on the assignment in class.

Monday, September 14

Today we finished the notes on the Early American Civilizations.

Friday, September 11

Today we talked about the 2001 terrorist attacks for a little bit.  We then shared current events before continuing the notes.

Today I began the lecture about Early American Civilizations.  See the notes link on the left to view the notes.

Tuesday, September 8

Today we finished up the crossword exchange.  We then did an activity where the students were placed into groups and had to figure out what life would have been like as Native Americans in different parts of the U.S. 8,000 years ago.  They also got their quiz scores from Friday's map quiz.

Friday, September 4

Today the students took the map quiz over Central and South America.  We then had a current events session.  Finished crosswords are due on Tuesday.

Thursday, September 3

Today the students handed in the crossword puzzles that they made over chapter 11 and then received on that another student made to fill in.  The finished puzzle is due on Monday.  We then reviewed for tomorrow's map quiz over the countries of Central and South America.  The last few minutes we started a group activity that will be finished tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 2

Today the classes took a quiz on prehistory that was not graded.  A few of the classes completed the quizzes as group activities. 

Crossword puzzles are due tomorrow.

Tuesday, September 1

Today we did an activity involving the geography of Central America and South America.  On Friday, there will be a quiz over these 21 countries. 

I also gave an assignment that is due on Thursday.  They are to read p. 372-385 in the text and choose 15 items (vocab., names, places, etc.) to make a crossword puzzle with.  They can make it by hand or use a website but either way they must have two things: 1) a blank puzzle with clues and 2) an answer key.  Below is a link to a website that many students have used.
