Tuesday, September 16 Latin American Independence from the Developing Nations notes link.
Monday, September 15 Today we reviewed the L.A. Social Ladder and used the class as an example of the ladder. We also talked
about the term "mercantilism". We also discussed the assignment that was to be done over 444-447 and handed
it in.
Thursday, September 11 We began class today talking about 9/11 for a little bit and what that day did to change the U.S.
We then finished building the Latin American social ladder. A couple of classes talked about yesterday's assignment
and a couple of others didn't. No current event for tomorrow.
Wednesday, September 10 Today we talked about social status in the United States before beginning the social ladder that
existed during colonial Latin America. The students are to read p. 444-447 for tomorrow and make a list of 10 important
items from the reading. Tuesday, September 9 Today we spent the entire period talking about the Overseas Empires chart that was assigned yesterday.
I gave them a couple of notes about the Line of Demarcation and the Treaty of Tordesillas as well as Spain's main goals
in the "New World".
Monday, September 8 Today
we spent some time talking about Christopher Columbus, taking a "quiz" about him in a short class activity.
The students then received an assignment called "Overseas Empires", a chart about the European countries and the
land they took in Latin America.
Friday, September 5 We took a quiz over the lecture and notes today. We corrected the quizzes in class and then talked about current
events. Those that missed current events can make them up in the MRC.
Thursday, Sept. 4 Finished
the lecture today. Quiz over notes tomorrow.
Wednesday, September 3 I continued with the Early American Civilizations notes.
Tuesday, September 2 The students took the map quiz over Central and South America to begin the period. We briefly touched on hurricanes
Gustav and Hanna before I lectured more from the Early American Civilizations notes.
Thursday, August 28 For most we finished up the crossword activity today by checking them and handing them in.
We then did a brief activity with the maps over Central and South America, finding out what countries we knew. Again,
the quiz over these 21 countries is on Tuesday of next week (first day back after the weekend). I then continued with
the lecture that was started yesterday.
Wednesday, August 27 Today I got on my stump and talked about how much I hate the words "gay" and "retarded".
We then traded crossword puzzles and had a chance to work on completing another's puzzle for about 10 minutes. The
completed crosswords are due tomorrow. I then began our first lecture on Early American Civilizations (see notes link
to the left) and got through the Olmec. The quiz that was scheduled
for Friday about the countries of Central and South America is now going to be Tuesday instead.
Tuesday, August 26 Today we did a group activity for most of the class period in lieu of reading 11.1. Crosswords are due
tomorrow when we will exchange at the beginning of class.
Monday, August 25 Today the students took a non-graded quiz on some pre-history topics. I also gave an assignment that is due
on Wednesday. They are to read p. 372-385 in the text and choose 15 items (vocab., names, places, etc.) to make a crossword
puzzle with. They can make it by hand or use a website but either way they must have two things: 1) a blank puzzle with
clues and 2) an answer key. Below is a link to a website that many students have used.

Friday, August 22 Today we did current events at the beginning of the period. I then finished going over the

Wednesday, August 20 Today we did beginning of the year-type activities in class. Students need a cover on their textbook for tomorrow.
